Getting to know Jared:
Q: How is a typical day for you?
A: Days at Janio tend to vary, so no two days are the same. I could be working on multiple different accounts or projects, but there's a consistent structure I try to stick to. In the morning, I look through ALL my emails - I never leave an email unread. After that, I decide on my priorities for the day - I like to take time to think about my tasks and sort through them in my head, before diving into work. I also make sure to take breaks for coffee and lunch - having moments of peace helps me stay calm and motivated.
Q: What are your career goals?
A: The end state I strive for is stability for myself and my family. Being able to work towards that provides satisfaction to my work, where I can construe milestones for me to strive for. Currently, I'm still looking to learn - Janio has been a fantastic source of challenging situations and new experiences. I feel that I have been pushed to new lengths, and I hope for this to continue.
Q: What do you love most about your job?
A: I always tell people that this job feels like a lucky accident. The skills and job scope required align heavily with my personal interests and prior training, so it feels like I can truly express myself to my fullest potential. The challenging and dynamic nature of this job is also a treat, as I constantly seek new experiences.
Q: What inspired you to join the team here?
A: Meeting the people and understanding the company's vision drew me in. I saw Janio as a new horizon for me to venture towards, where I could see a variety of skills and connections to work towards. This complemented my goal of obtaining precious experience in this role and industry.
Q: What do you think sets you apart from others?
A: I like to believe that it comes down to two things: 1) Adaptability, and 2) Efficiency.
Both of these things work as double-edged swords, but I pride myself on my ability to keep an open mind to change, as well as my commitment to optimising my work patterns and completing tasks quickly. However, change can sometimes be harsh on my psyche, and going too fast can lead to being careless. Striving for a middle ground is what I truly aim for.
Q: What challenges do you face in your role?
A: Keeping track of all the different things on my plate is tough, especially when I have to also be focused on a select few. It's easy to go too far in either direction, but having peers to keep me grounded is something I really appreciate. Slowing down to take things one step at a time has been producing better results, which I'll take as me going in the right direction.
Q: Tell us something about your professional development journey.
A: It feels as though I've undergone multiple transformations while in Janio alone, my experiences and peers have shaped me multiple times to improve myself, and my work ethic. From a stage of infancy to a stage of independence, to a stage of collaboration - all unique versions of myself that have been building towards the person I am today.
Q: What is the biggest challenge that you’ve faced since joining the team?
A: Staying confident has been the toughest part of this job. Coming to a challenging ecosystem where you are regularly challenged and pushed has been tiring for me, especially when efforts are not always rewarded. However, realigning my mindset to focus on results has improved my state of mind greatly; slowing down and opening my ears to the casual compliments and friendliness of my peers - the little things - have reminded me that I am recognized in this company and that I too, have value.
Q: What do you think is the most important skill that a successful professional needs to have?
A: Maybe it's a little overstated, but patience truly is the greatest virtue. Being able to stay still when things around you are on fire, allows you to see the details. Assessing a situation before taking action has always provided much preferred results.
Q: What would your perfect weekend look like?
A: Being able to meet friends is always a plus for me - ideally, I'd have a mix of time for myself and time for others. I like to stay in and catch up on my hobbies, as well as go out and spend some time with those I care for.
Q: Describe an interesting hobby or pastime that you have.
A: I love music - it's a big part of my life, and I feel a large connection to the medium. Writing songs has been cathartic for any situation I find myself in, it provides an outlet for the joys and stresses of daily life. If I'm not feeling too inspired, I can always fall back on my favorite artists and enjoy the moment.
Q: What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career?
A: Results speak volumes, and efforts turn the handles. Although I tended to always max out and go 120% on my tasks, I realized that I wouldn't always be getting results. Sometimes, the path of least resistance is the most effective - choosing the optimal path is difficult but always worth looking for.
