“Globalizing Indonesian Products” is the latest mission of Bukalapak, one of the biggest online marketplaces from Indonesia. Through its innovative platform, BukaGlobal, which directly translates to “Open Global”, Bukalapak takes the bold and exciting step of becoming the first Indonesian marketplace to allow Indonesian eCommerce merchants access the international market.
To support its foray into the international eCommerce scene, Bukalapak has decided to exclusively partner with Janio Technologies Pte Ltd to leverage our regional eCommerce logistics expertise.
BukaGlobal was officially launched at the Embassy of The Republic of Indonesia in Singapore on Monday, 20th May 2019. The event was graced by Rudiantara, Indonesian Minister of Communication & IT, Ngurah Swajaya, Indonesian Ambassador for Singapore, the press, and representatives from PPIS (Indonesian Students Association in Singapore).
Indonesian Minister of Communication and IT, Rudiantara kicked off the launch by giving his opening speech to the hundreds of attendees at the embassy. Rudiantara extended the Indonesian government’s full support for Bukalapak’s initiative, mentioning the harmonious alignment between BukaGlobal and the government program.
In his words, Rudiantara elaborated the Indonesian government’s focus in fostering local SMEs capabilities in contributing to the country’s exports. The Minister added on that it is his strong belief that with the collaboration between eCommerce and traditional business, Indonesian SMEs can lead digital economy growth in Southeast Asia.
Taking the stage next was Ambassador Ngurah Swajaya who addressed the Indonesian diaspora’s longing for Indonesian goods and foods, which earned enthusiastic nods and affirming chatter from the Indonesian audience. Ngurah also signalled his approval towards Bukalapak’s decision to launch BukaGlobal in Singapore, citing the strong ties between the two countries. This strong relationship, as Ngurah sees it, makes Singapore a good launching pad to introduce Indonesian products in the regional market.
The next speaker was Muhammad Fajrin, the Co-founder and President of Bukalapak. Fajrin touched on the pain points that Indonesian eCommerce merchants are facing to break into the global scene, which include limited access to the market, as well as lack of reliable and affordable logistics partner.
Acknowledging the huge potential of Indonesian SMEs, Fajrin further shared his and Bukalapak’s wish to help Indonesian SMEs compete in the global scene, hence the solution in the form of BukaGlobal and partnership with Janio. The first push will include qualified merchants located in Jakarta and Tangerang selling to regional markets like Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Brunei Darrusalam, and Taiwan. BukaGlobal’s access to these markets will be the first step for Bukalapak’s eventual goal to bring Indonesian products to a global stage.
Resonating with Fajrin’s words were Janio’s own COO, Syed Ali Ridha Madihid. Understanding the importance of reliable and fast cross-border parcel deliveries in order to stay competitive in the industry, Ali highlighted that Janio’s robust technological system will do exactly that. Ali further solidified Janio’s commitment to provide a seamless and reliable logistics solution to all Indonesian merchants who aspire to be global players.
The talk was brought to a close with the symbolic delivery of the first parcel to a representative from PPIS who also represented the population of Indonesian diaspora in Singapore. The message was clear, Bukalapak is ready to serve all Indonesians wherever they are, and we at Janio will ever be ready to help deliver nothing but the best.
