Employee Spotlight: Julia Florensia Lisalim, Senior Digital Marketing Specialist

Employer Branding

“Don’t be afraid to take chances whenever it’s presented to you. One of my previous mentors told me, “You’ll never know when you’ll be ready enough, sometimes you just have to take the leap of faith and try”. I live by this now that even if I fail, I tell myself at least I tried my best and I learn from it.”

– Julia Florensia Lisalim

Julia Florensia Lisalim works as a Senior Digital Marketing Specialist for Janio Asia. She is in charge of planning and activating digital campaigns to help generate leads for the sales team and contribute to the revenue pipeline. She prepares daily reports to keep track of campaign performances. Julia also manages the social media accounts for Janio HQ, Indonesia, Thailand, and China. She also tries out different channels, partnerships, and exploratory projects. Julia shared that it is crucial to have accurate target profiles to figure out the right strategy to craft marketing campaigns, especially when targeting different markets.

To her, one interesting thing about her role is being able to talk openly with different departments in Janio for cross-functional projects. Through this, she learns more about the company and identifies ways to help improve performance. Julia enjoys engaging in brainstorming sessions to contribute ideas and solutions. She also adds it is empowering to have great teammates who are always willing to guide her through complex tasks.

Julia mentioned that having daily routines helps her to take better self-care and be more productive. A to-do list allows her to work better by having a clear goal to accomplish each day. She also suggests sticking to a workout schedule to keep yourself energised and maintain a work-life balance. Julia is motivated by the advice from one of her mentors, “You’ll never know when you’ll be ready enough, sometimes you just have to take the leap of faith and try”. For her, it is best to try things because even if you fail, you will have learned something.

Getting to know Julia:
Q: Can you describe your typical day?
A: Reports, numbers, meetings, and HubSpot. In the morning, I would be crunching numbers for our daily reporting to keep track of the campaign performances. Then in the afternoon, I’ll usually have meetings with different functions from Singapore and our regional teams.

Q. Do you have a morning routine at work? Can you share more about it?
A: I usually go to the gym before coming to work. I find that I feel more refreshed and ready for the day. In the morning, I will write down a list of to-do things for the day—this helped me work better and more focused followed by compiling data to prepare my reports. Since I have clear goals written down, it feels good to check off the boxes at the end of the day, knowing that I have accomplished things. I also block out time in my calendar for different tasks. It gives me time to focus and also acts as a reminder.

Q. What has been the most challenging part of your job?
A: I think it’s mostly figuring out the right strategy to approach different markets that will eventually impact the revenue pipeline. I learned that it is best to arrange meetings with the different country teams and think of a solution together. We work on understanding the market and target clients by analysing each target profile (habits, lifestyle, etc.). Afterwards, we’ll use the information to craft our marketing campaign/efforts around it. I am lucky to work with a great team who are always willing to guide me through complex tasks.

Q: How did you end up in digital marketing?
A: I wanted to be a fashion designer when I was a kid. I was very interested in drawing and painting. I found myself drawing a lot, specifically clothes—I thought of pursuing it for a while. But as I get older, I realise that the fashion industry may not be the best option because it is very challenging to be “super successful.” I eventually decided to major in business, which will allow me to branch out to different careers in the future.

I first became interested in marketing while I was a student. My dissertation lecturer, who happened to be an expert in marketing, shared many insightful stories with me. The fact that digital marketing uses numerous social media platforms that we all use on a daily basis is another factor that drew me to it. It is intriguing to learn about the inner workings of the apps.

Q: What career advice would you give to your younger self?
A: Don’t be afraid to take chances whenever it’s presented to you. One of my previous mentors told me, “You’ll never know when you’ll be ready enough, sometimes you just have to take the leap of faith and try”. I live by this now that even if I fail, I tell myself at least I tried my best and I learn from it.

Q. What is your favourite memory with the Janio team?
A: One of my fondest memory with the Marketing team is when they surprised me on my birthday last year. It was unexpected as I was very new to the team, but they were very sweet to arrange a team lunch and we had a good time bonding. I also enjoyed the time when we had the “After-Hours” event in the HQ office. It allowed me to interact with a lot more colleagues within the company. It was a fun night getting to know everyone outside of office hours.

Q: What hobbies or activities do you look forward to doing on the weekends or after work? And how did you get into it?
A: I enjoy working out at the gym. I think most of my colleagues already know that because I always come into the office with my gym bag or my shoe bag. I think it’s a good way to de-stress and I get to meet new people in the gym as well!

Previously, I was attending spinning, bodycombat, bodypump classes. After attending the trial for BFT (Body Fit Training), I fell in love with the program and decided to sign up for it. As each class has a fixed timing, it helps/nudges me to prioritise and manage my time better.

Q. How would your family, friends or colleagues describe you in five emojis?
A: 🥺🤡🍷😮💸

Q. What’s your favourite GIF/meme that you probably often share with your friends?
A: Too many… but definitely Friends’ related GIFs
