Janio was at the inaugural Home Delivery Asia Expo at Suntec Convention Center, Singapore, earlier last week. The event brought together 80 technology exhibitors and 70 of Asia’s best startups to share new insights on innovation, transformation & disruption in retail logistics.
Our CEO, Jun Kai, gave the opening key note speech on the first day of the expo, where he shared about the evolving logistics landscape in Southeast Asia, and how technology is reshaping eCommerce supply chains in the region.
Lately there are many companies, large enterprises and start-ups alike, already addressing last mile and fulfilment challenges through developing the assets and processes to enable eCommerce deliveries, but more is needed to be done. What’s needed is a way of integrating the different parts of the ecosystem, through technology and partnerships, to optimise the process even further.
“Technology by itself is not enough. Our job is to bring everyone together because nobody can do it alone.” – Ng Jun Kai, CEO
Our COO, Ali, also spoke on a panel alongside Fabelio and Importir.co, industry peers in the Indonesian eCommerce scene, discussing the landscape in Indonesia and the challenges associated with eCommerce.
The panelists discussed how Indonesia’s geography, as an archipelago with thousands of islands, presented a huge challenge in terms of domestic deliveries. Sea freight, as a mode of shipping, is still vital given the wide distribution of consumers across the country.
The need for “human intelligence”, or people who have experience on the ground, in addition to “artificial intelligence”, was also discussed. While geolocation technology and route optimization software have helped improve the success rate of delivery and shortened delivery times, there are still many local nuances and developments that are not accounted for when using such tools that require an experienced local logistician to circumvent.
As we enter into the final, busiest quarter of 2019, we’re glad to have met many new partners at Home Delivery Asia, many of whom we will be working with closely to tackle the coming peak eCommerce seasons in the next few months
