Opening Doors for Thai eCommerce Merchants: The Cross-Border Opportunity in Indonesia

Bangkok, November 20, 2019 – On the 20th of November, The Great Room organised an exclusive event “Spend the Night” on the topic of the opportunities of cross-border eCommerce in Indonesia. The event was organised in collaboration with Kasikorn Bank, held at Gaysorn Tower, Bangkok.

The event was opened by Mr. Chanthapat Panjamanond, the Director of Digital Commerce Market of DITP, and attended by over 70 participants consisting of local Thai eCommerce platforms and SMEs. Our Chief Operating Officer and Co-founder, Mr. Syed Ali Ridha Madihid, gave a presentation on how the cross-border shipping model can open doors for eCommerce merchants within Southeast Asia. He also spoke in a panel discussion alongside Mr. Geoffrey Lew, SVP Partnership Merchant Sales Development, BliBli, and Ms. Chyi Lee, Head of World Business Strategic Intelligence, Kasikorn Bank. The speakers talked about how Indonesia’s eCommerce landscape has evolved over the last few years, and how Thai entrepreneurs can now ride on these changes in order to grow their business to new heights. For instance, Mr. Lew shared about the various profiles of Indonesia’s consumers and popular promotional tactics to win customers over on Blibli’s platform.

Ali highlighted the opportunity for Thai merchants to tap onto Indonesia’s eCommerce market by selling in localised eCommerce marketplaces like Blibli and shared his insights on the top product categories in Indonesia. Additionally, he shared about the challenges of the fragmented logistics industry in Southeast Asia, and how Janio’s modular tech-enabled solution helps to integrate multiple players across the logistics supply chain to provide an end-to-end and flexible solution for eCommerce merchants.

With the Thai government announcing its plans to support the expansion of eCommerce, Janio will continue to play its part in supporting aspiring eCommerce businesses and brands by being the cross-border shipping partner for key eCommerce players like Blibli.
