Indonesia Customs Update: Identification Requirements for B2C Indonesia Imports

Benedict Leong

Indonesia’s Customs is implementing a new update by 1st August 2021. On 1st August, it will be mandatory to obtain and include the local tax ID (NPWP) of consignees based in Indonesia for each consignment note.

If the consignee does not have a local tax ID (NPWP), other forms of identification may be used instead such as:

  • Indonesian ID Number (NIK – Nomor Induk Kependudukan) for Indonesian Nationals also known as their Kartu Tanda Penduduk (KTP) number
  • Indonesian Driver’s License, for Indonesian Nationals or Foreigners
  • Passport Number or Long Term Stay Passes – KITAS/ KITAP, only for Foreigners

Please note that a failure to include the consignee’s NPWP, KTP, or passport number or any other forms of identification will result in delays in your shipment times.

We will keep you updated on any changes to the announced regulations as the situation evolves.

We are also working on updating our merchant portal to support you in providing these documents to Indonesia’s Directorate General of Customs and Excise and will keep you posted.

You can also find more information on the customs procedures you need to follow to minimise issues at Indoensian customs in our updated article.
